Infant Feeding Support

There are lots of options to support parents with feeding their baby in the early days. There are national helplines that are staffed by voluntary mother to mother peer supporters or breastfeeding counsellors.

National infant feeding helplines:

  • ABM Breastfeeding helpline: 0300 330 5453   9.30am – 10.30pm
  • La Leche League helpline: 0345 120 2918   8am – 11.00pm
  • National Breastfeeding helpline: 0300 100 0212  9.30am – 9.30pm
  • National Childbirth Trust (NCT) Infant feeding line: 0300 330 0700  8am – midnight

Local support

The Devon health visiting team has an infant feeding service that can offer feeding support for breastfeeding and bottle feeding parents and carers.

If you would like more information, advice or a referral into this service, please contact your public health nursing hub. There are also a number of breastfeeding peer support groups across the county. Please visit our service finder to find a group near to you.

ChatHealth Logo

Devon County Council runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-19 years called ChatHealth. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens. You can also call our Public Health Nursing hubs on the numbers listed below.
