Hire a breast pump from LPT’s Infant Feeding Team

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Infant Feeding Team, have a limited number of electric breast pumps to hire out to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland families. These are for short term, emergency use only where pumping can be a very useful intervention when facing challenges around growth, milk supply and/or separation. Unfortunately, the team are unable to lend out pumps for longer than a month.

Expressing milk can often be achieved successfully using hand expression or with a silicone breast pump. These handy little pumps can cost anything between £6 – £15, so shop around.

If the team can facilitate your request, you will be given a pump and a personal use double pump set, at no initial cost. However, when returned you are expected to replace the pump set with a new one.  A single set will cost approximately £23,  with a double set costing more.

To replace the pump set, visit Ardo Medical and search single (or double) pump set. Please order it in good time so the pump and the set can be returned together.

Please note our pumps come with a standard 26mm flange. It is important to ensure you are using the correct flange size. To measure your nipple correctly use a ruler to measure in mm.

Measuring nipple sizes

• Nipples should be stimulated prior to measuring
• Both nipples should be measured
• Measure towards the tip of the nipple rather than the base and keep true to size
• When pumping starts, keep an open mind, watch the nipple movement, you may need to size up or down

Hard silicone flange inserts are normally recommended for optimum output but can be expensive and often are purchased as individual sizes. Alternatively, more affordable silicone flange inserts can be purchased online with the below examples from Amazon:

• Nuliie (£9.99 for a pack of 10 at time of writing)
• Luxemum (£7.99 for a pack of 10 at time of writing)
