This summer the NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (LLR) is bringing vaccinations into city parks so that local people can top up their protection conveniently, without needing an appointment. All residents and particularly pregnant women, parents of newborn babies, school aged children and older people are being urged to take the opportunity to check they’re fully up to date with all their free routine NHS vaccinations.
Travelling over the summer could expose people to viruses that are circulating in different cities and countries, by ensuring you and your family are fully up to date with all the NHS recommended vaccines you can be reassured you’re reducing the risk of becoming unwell from preventable viruses and diseases.
The NHS is urging all pregnant women to get vaccinated now against RSV and whooping cough when eligible as it will protect their babies from becoming seriously unwell from respiratory illnesses when they are born, particularly in the colder winter months.
During the school holidays the local NHS has a schedule of conveniently located walk-in clinics, at several Leicester city parks, for anyone that has missed an MMR, whooping cough or RSV vaccine.
The clinics also offer blood pressure checks to anyone over 40 years old.
Park clinics are taking place at:
- Saturday 19 July – Abbey Park play area, Abbey Park Road, Leicester, LE4 5AQ between 10am-4pm.
- Wednesday 23 July – Spinney Hill Park (next to the play area), Park Vale Road, Leicester, LE5 5BP between 10am-4pm.
- Tuesday 29 July – Elizabeth Park Checkland Road, Thurmaston, Leicester, LE4 8FN.
- Monday 4 August – Braunstone Park, Cort Crecent, Leicester, LE3 1QN between 10am-4pm.
