Toilet Training campaign

Potty training is an important step for you and your child.

Learning to use a potty, and then the toilet on their own takes time, practice and patience.

If you’re starting potty training or you want to build your child’s confidence to use the toilet on their own, the Best Start in Life Potty Training page can help.

Best Start in Life has launched a Toilet Training campaign to support parents of children aged 3 to 4 who are due to start school in September. The campaign reassures parents that there is still time to help their child build confidence and independence with using the toilet before their first day at school.

It provides practical advice to help children develop the skills they need for school, from recognising when they need the toilet to managing clothing, wiping, flushing and washing their hands using the below steps:

1. Tell your child what’s happening
2. Stop using nappies during the day
3. Help your child use the potty or toilet regularly
4. Praise their efforts
5. Help your child build confidence with new skills.
