South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-5 years called ChatHealth. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a health visitor within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the service reopens.

Your pre-school offer with the South Warwickshire Health Visiting Service

The universal offer for our families across the area is offered through combinations of face to face contacts offered at home or in a variety of community and health settings, video calls, telephone calls, email, social media, website and using our text messaging advice service ChatHealth.

Antenatal contact

This contact may be a face to face visit, video call or telephone call.

Your midwife will let us know of your pregnancy, and we will carry out this contact anytime after 28 weeks of pregnancy.This offer complements that offered by your midwife, and initiates you being able to discuss your current situation, thoughts, hopes and fears with a health visitor, facilitating a discussion about what support you may require. It also gives an opportunity to find out what the health visiting service can offer you and what contact you can expect.

During this contact, you will be able to discuss:

  • Your health and pregnancy
  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Bonding with your baby
  • Caring for your baby
  • Safer sleep
  • Feeding choices
  • Supporting your baby’s development

New birth contact

This contact will be a face to face visit.

Once your baby is born, we are informed by our Child Health, and we will visit between 10-28days postnatally. This will give us a chance to chat about how the birth and arrival of your baby was, and how the family are adapting to your new addition. We can talk through feeding, sleeping, family wellbeing and discuss a plan of what support you need moving forward.

During this contact, you will be able to discuss:

  • Feeding your baby
  • Safe sleep
  • Safety
  • Emotional wellbeing and support
  • Your family and environment

6-8 week contact

This contact may be a face to face visit, video call or telephone call.

When your baby is between 6-8 weeks, you will have an appointment with your GP. You will also have a contact with the health visitor who will have a further chat about how your experience as a parent is going, and how you as parents are, as well as what support you may require between this and the 9-12 month review.

During this contact, you will be able to discuss:

  • Feeding
  • Development
  • Crying
  • Safe sleep
  • Safety
  • Vaccinations
  • Oral health
  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Bonding with your baby

9 month contact

This contact may be a face to face visit, video call or telephone call.

When your baby is between 9 and 12 months you will be sent/emailed some questionnaires for you to complete about your child’s development, and these then form part of the discussion with the Community Nursery Nurse, Community Nurse or Health Visitor who will then complete your child’s development review. This will also give you an opportunity to discuss your child’s eating, sleeping, and any other things you may wish to discuss. Accident prevention and next immunisations will also be covered. Your child will also be weighed and measured at this contact. There is also the opportunity for you to discuss your own emotional wellbeing and any issues within your life that you may require support with, such as financial or housing issues, and you can be signposted to other services for support with this.

2 year contact

This contact may be a face to face visit, video call or telephone call.

When your child is between 24-30 months you will be sent/emailed some questionnaires for you to complete about your child’s development, and these then form part of the discussion with the Community Nursery Nurse, Community Nurse or Health Visitor who will then complete your child’s development review. This will also give you an opportunity to discuss your child’s eating, sleeping, and any other things you may wish to discuss. Accident prevention and next immunisations will also be covered.
