We are trialling the ELIM tool and Intervention for families in Buckinghamshire as part of your child’s 2 to 2½ year health review.
ELIM focuses on speech, language and communication development to help identify if your child would benefit from extra support at an earlier stage.
ELIM will be used in addition to the standard Ages and Stages questionnaires when your child attends their health review and involves the following steps:
- A word list is completed based on the words that your child currently says. The Health Visitor will also complete an observation of your child. These are used to help identify if your child has a speech, language and communication need.
- During the review you can discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child’s speech, language and communication.
- If your child is found to have a speech, language and communication need, a plan is made together on how to best support your child.
Research shows that this new programme is better at identifying speech, language and communication need than the standard Ages and Stages.
If you have any questions regarding ELIM, please speak to your Health Visitor.
