Baby welcome packs

If you’re pregnant and aged between 13 and 19 (or in some cases up to 25), you could be eligible for a baby pack – a great resource that helps new mums prepare for the arrival of their baby.

To qualify for a baby pack, you need to be referred to your local Fun and Families Centre by your midwife. Once they’ve received the referral, a support worker will arrange to meet with you to talk about your pregnancy and the birth and to offer you support and advice. For example, they can give you details of local groups where you can meet other new mums, learn about being a parent and be supported to look after yourself.

What’s in a baby pack?

The baby pack contain:

  • Moses basket size mattress
  • Blanket
  • Changing mat
  • Baby wipes
  • Hat
  • Bath thermometer
  • Muslin square
  • Hooded towel
  • Bath book and other baby books to enjoy together
  • Washcloths
  • Photo magnet
  • Nipple cream
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

You can use the box that these things come in to store all of your baby treasures in.

Have a chat with your midwife, or arrange a visit with a family support worker from your local children’s centre.

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-19 years called Chat Health. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens.

Should you require urgent health advice in the meantime, please contact your GP, visit an NHS walk-in centre or call NHS 111. For emergencies, dial 999 or visit A&E.
