After a baby is born, it can help to talk about what happened. You might want to:
- understand why things didn’t go the way you or your family thought they would
- understand the experience better
- ask questions about what happened during the birth
The Birth Reflections Service is there to let people share how they feel and get answers. They can help you to understand what happened during the birth.
The Birth Reflections Service is a listening and information giving service. It is led by midwives. It is open to all women and birthing people that have had maternity care at Leicester’s Hospitals. It is also for those who are planning to have another baby.
The Birth Reflections team can give you support with mental health. They help look out for symptoms of:
- anxiety
- depression
- post-traumatic stress
They work together with the perinatal and maternal mental health teams to support you.
You can book a face to face appointment in the birth reflections room at Leicester General Hospital. The room is a comfortable, relaxed space. It has sofas and tea and coffee.
They also offer appointments through video calls and phone. With any appointment, the service can book an interpreter for you to help with the conversation. You can also bring your own support like a partner, friend, family member.
The service wants to hear your feedback. This helps improve care in the future. The Birth Reflections team gives feedback to the maternity service to help make their service better. They feedback the most common concerns of patients and their partners. They do this so that changes can be made. Your name will not be used or given when your concerns are taken for feedback.
You can get in contact with the Birth Reflections Service by phone or email: birthreflections@uhl-tr.nhs.uk – please leave your full name, date of birth and phone number.
Tel: 07876476003 – please leave your full name and date of birth.

Referrals are accepted for any person that has had a baby at Leicester’s Hospitals, having a baby or is thinking about another pregnancy.
