Leicestershire LGBTQ Centre

Did you know that Leicestershire LGBTQ Centre provide free support services for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families?

Family support

  • Rainbow Families (Every Other Saturday, 10.30-12.30, Voluntary Action Leicestershire, LE1 5SN): Support for LGBTQ+ families in all shapes and sizes. Younger LGBTQ+ children can attend with their parents (up to the age of 13). More information about rainbow families can be found on our events page here.
  • Strong Ties (First Monday of the month, 18-19.30, Voluntary Action Leicestershire, LE1 5SN): Support for loved ones of people under the trans umbrella.
  • Parents support group (Third Monday of the month, 18-19.30, Voluntary Action Leicestershire, LE1 5SN): Support for parents of LGBTQ+ people.

Youth support

  • Leicester LGBTQ+ Youth Group
  • Loughborough LGBTQ+ Youth Group (Every Other Thursday, 17-19.00, Loughborough Wellbeing Centre)
  • Hinckley LGBTQ+ Youth Group (Fridays, 17-19.00, Hinckley Children and Family Hub)

All youth groups have a minimum of 2 staff (with enhanced DBS checks) and are LGBTQ+/trans led. They involve a mixture of activities, games, and a social space.

Counselling

The centre offers both general counselling and specialist domestic abuse counselling for LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones.

Their domestic abuse counselling service is free and the general service is donation based. Both are open to people aged 14+.

ChatHealth Logo

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-19 years called Chat Health. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens.

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust runs the Healthy Together Helpline for parents and carers in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The Helpline’s qualified health and administrative professionals offer easy to access, safe and free advice, support and signposting. Calls are answered from 9am – 4.30pm on weekdays, excluding bank holidays. Calls are charged at the same rate as calling a standard landline number.
