Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-19 years called Parentline. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a public health practitioner within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens.

The Healthy Family Team deliver an integrated 0-19 healthy child programme and public health nursing service for children, young people and their families. The teams are made up of Health Visitors, School Nurses, Public Health Practitioners, Assistant Public Health Practitioners and Healthy Child Assistants who are all trained to offer a variety of services to support young children to grow and develop into healthy adults, physically and emotionally.

In addition to the ChatHealth messaging service above, the Healthy Family Team also operate a telephone advice line for parents, carers and healthcare professionals. You can call this for advice and support between 9am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, on 0300 123 5436.

Antenatal (first time parent)

If this is your first baby you will be offered an antenatal contact carried out by a Health Visitor from 28 weeks of pregnancy onwards. This contact can take place over the phone, face to face or a blend of both. The contact will explore various topics around becoming a new parent ranging from safe sleep for your baby to bonding and feeding to name a few.

Antenatal

If this is not your first baby the antenatal contact will take place in the form of a contact from the Healthy Child Assistant via a phone call. This will explore if there any aspects of having another baby that you wish to discuss, this may be revisiting feeding or sleep routines or how to cope with having more than one child. If you want to see a Health Visitor this can be arranged.

Birth Visit

Your birth visit with the Health Visitor will take place between 10-14 days after giving birth unless you are unable to. This will be routinely carried out in the home. We can explore together infant feeding, promoting sensitive parenting, development of infants, secure attachment, assessing emotional health and wellbeing, prevention of sudden infant death, safe sleeping, home safety, along with other public health messages.

6-8 week review

This contact will take place between 6-8 weeks after birth and explore your baby’s development along with a review of their growth. We offer advice and support around infant feeding, bonding and emotional health and wellbeing. Your GP will complete a physical examination of your baby before they have their immunisations around 8 weeks.

8-12 month review

Between 8-12 months of age your child will have a review to see how they are developing and growing. We use a tool called Ages and Stages Questionnaire to assess their development and offer advice and support if needed. We will also ask about emotional health and wellbeing.

2-2.5 year review

Between 2 and 2.5 years of age the Healthy Child Assistant will carry out a review of your child’s growth and development using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. We will also assess your child’s speech and refer onto other services if needed with your consent. There will be an opportunity to discuss toileting, behaviour, eating habits and any other concerns.

3 year targeted review (School readiness)

We offer a 3 year targeted review to children that may not have met their developmental target at age 2 years. This additional review allows early identification to give you advice and support to ensure your child progresses and be ready for school.
