Some breastfeeding mums may require extra support to achieve enjoyable, pain-free feeding
Finding out as much as you can about infant feeding will help you to be prepared and much more likely to have a positive experience.
Within Nottinghamshire we have a range of practitioners and resources that can support you with your breastfeeding journey. All staff are trained to Unicef Baby Friendly Standards and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are very proud to have been awarded the Baby Friendly Initiative Gold Sustainability award.
Health Visitors are available before and after your baby is born. You may find it useful to have a discussion about feeding and caring for your baby during your pregnancy in order to be able to make your decisions. Once baby is born your Health Visitor can help with supporting you to get feeding established.
Within the Healthy Family Team we also have Healthy Child Assistants (HCA’s) who can support with any challenges you may experience with infant feeding and this can be delivered over the phone, virtually or face-to-face. The HCA’s also run face-to-face antenatal sessions to offer you the advice and support needed to prepare you and help you make an informed choice.
If mothers need additional support, there are specialist breastfeeding clinics around the county we can refer you to. These are run by the infant feeding leads who are lactation consultants.
The Heathy Family Team can also signpost you to the local BABES groups which are currently run virtually through your local children’s centre. In these sessions you can meet with other parents who may be having similar experiences.
