Language support for 2 year olds and their grown-ups.

If your child is aged around 2-2.5 years and could benefit from some support with their talking, they may meet the criteria for Home Talk in Nottinghamshire. A Home Talk worker can offer fun home visits for children and their grown ups to share ideas about talking together.

What is Home Talk?

  • Home Talk is a nationally recognised evidence-based programme.
  • It features 6 home visits from a qualified and experienced Home Talk worker, who is supervised by a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • It includes a parent programme, working with parents to develop their confidence in supporting their child’s listening and talking skills through play experiences and everyday routines.
  • It helps parents to use play activities and interaction strategies, to support their child’s language development through playing together, sharing books, singing songs and rhymes.
  • Home Talk supports families in accessing children’s centre groups and/or the local library.
  • A review home visit is completed 3 months after completing the 6 week programme.

Who is Home Talk for?

  • Children aged between 22–30 months.
  • Children with delayed spoken language (using between 0-30 spoken words at 24 months).
  • Children who have difficulties understanding what is said to them should be referred directly to Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Children are typically referred to Home Talk by the Healthy Family Team following their 2 year check.

Here you can watch a video with some of our Home Talk workers explaining more about what they do and why they love their job!
