Did you know that all parents & carers of pre school babies and children have access to the Health Visiting Service?
The Health Visiting service is led by Health Visitors who are qualified nurses and/or midwives who have additional training in community public health nursing. They are supported by support workers, nursery nurses, administrators and staff nurses. Together, the service offers a universal service to parents from 28 weeks pregnant through to when a child starts in full time school.
All parents are offered 5 contacts during the first 2 1/2 years of a child’s life, These might be digital, telephone, clinic appointments or home visits. All families might also need additional support at some stage when their child is young. This might be for health or developmental reasons. A Health Visitor can offer individualised assessments for those needing additional support and provide time limited support packages.
This film produced by the Institute of Health Visiting explains more about the role of a Health Visitor.
