Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-5 years called ChatHealth. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a health visitor within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the service reopens.

Should you require urgent health advice in the meantime, please contact your GP, visit an NHS walk-in centre or call NHS 111. For emergencies, dial 999 or visit A&E.

1

28 week antenatal contact

An invitation will be sent to you for our Postnatal Preparation Group sessions. This will be your chance to meet a Practitioner from our Health Visiting Service. During the session, you will get practical support and advice regarding pregnancy and your upcoming birth. This will give you time to explore your own emotional health and wellbeing, along with your transition to parenthood.

If your midwife has shared that you might need some additional support, then a member of our team will contact you between 28-36 weeks pregnant and arrange a telephone or face to face appointment to talk about what support you might need.

It is very important you attend these appointments with your child. It is a time for you to speak with a professional, get advice and support and check that your little one’s milestones are being met.

If you do not receive an appointment, or you need any support or advice regarding your child, please contact our Single Point of Access on 01922 603074 or send a text explaining your concerns with your child’s name, date of birth and NHS number to 07520 634909.

Additional support from the Walsall health visiting team

In addition to the five contacts we offer some additional support around the following areas:

  • Starting solids
  • Breastfeeding
  • Managing sleep
  • Behaviour and toileting
  • Maternal mental health.

These are delivered through face to face workshops, groups or virtual webinars. We use a stepped approach to care and aim to provide support first via workshops and groups and then if additional support is needed, our time limited packages of care can be delivered by a member of the Health Visiting service. We work with other professionals in education, early years and children’s services to provide early help. This is the term we use to describe the support we give to children, young people and their families when they need extra help. You can find out more about early help by visiting the Walsall Council website.
