Antenatal Preparing for parenthood

Antenatal Preparing for Parenthood.

This course is delivered by the Family Support Service and held face to face at various locations across Hertfordshire.

The session will allow you to meet others and build your social networks with parents at the same stage of pregnancy, going through this new and exciting experience.

The sessions will cover:

  • The support available from the Family Centre Service.
  • All aspects of infant feeding.
  • Emotional preparation for birth and parenthood.
  • Practical aspects of caring for a baby.
  • What to expect during baby’s first hour.
  • Support available for baby’s first 5 years.
  • How babies communicate.
  • Healthy relationships, mother’s well-being and baby’s development.
  • Recognising baby’s well-being.
  • Essential information about keeping baby safe and healthy throughout the early years.

Please ensure you are at least 25 weeks pregnant when you start this course and ideally you will need to have completed it before you are 35 weeks pregnant.

As specialists in child health and development from pregnancy to the age of 5 years the Health Visiting Team and Family Support Service would like to invite you to view our Antenatal Breastfeeding Webinar. This is a free resource (under 1 hour long) and can be watched as often as you like. Sign up here

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust runs a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-5 years called ChatHealth. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays. All texts will be responded to by a health visitor within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the service reopens.
